Coronavirus update

Right now I’m continuing with teaching classes, but monitoring the situation closely. I’m listening to what other yoga studios are doing, which right now is staying open and continuing as normal with extra precautions. This may change depending on events and on government advice, and I will review my approach if this happens. Here are the precautions I’m taking right now:

  • asking students to wash their hands before and after class

  • disinfecting all mats after each use and minimising use of other equipment, or cleaning equipment if we do use anything. Students can also bring their own mats/equipment if they like

  • asking students to please not come to class if they have a cough or cold-like symptoms - even if for the peace of mind of others in the room

It’s a really tricky balance - on the one hand yoga keeps us calm and healthy (including strong immune systems) and contact with others in our community does too. On the other ideally we will reduce the risk of the virus spreading too quickly, resulting in overstretching our health services.

So, more on this later, as the situation (inevitably!) changes. Take care of yourself. And if you’re feeling overwhelmed, I recorded a video (here on Facebook or on Instagram part 1 and part 2) about dealing with our own natural fear response, I hope it’s helpful.
